The Place Of A Skull

“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” John 19:30
Calvary means “The place of a skull”. It is called Golgotha in Hebrew.
Several places have been identified as Calvary. Some say it is Mt. Moriah where Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac. Many today identify it as Gordon’s Calvary. The truth is that it has not yet been historically identified just where Jesus was crucified. Catholics believe the site is where The Holy Sepulcher is but that is inside the wall of Jerusalem and we at least know that Jesus was crucified outside the wall.
No other word in our language invokes such emotions as the word Calvary. It invokes feelings of great sorrow and great joy. Feelings of great anger and undeserving forgiveness. Feelings of great hatred and love. Feelings of great pain and healing.
