The work of the Holy Spirit in us is multifaceted, but four aspects are foundational to the life of faith: 1. The Spirit illumines our mind, enabling us to understand truth. 2. He energizes our body to serve the Lord. 3. He strengthens our will to follow through on doing right. 4. He transforms our emotions so we can feel and express the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Fighting is a major problem in our schools and the “gang wars” of the teenagers have come to present a serious menace in our cities. Fathers and mothers wrangle and bicker. Homes are disintegrating. High government officials in Washington engage in name-calling and in heated disputes not at all in keeping with the dignity of their office. Why and how has all this savagery crept into our social life? It is because we have forgotten Jesus’ words, “Happy are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.” I have seen tough, rough, hardened men open their hearts by faith, receive Christ as Savior, and become gentle, patient, merciful gentlemen. He knows what will happen before we do; nothing is hidden from His sight (Hebrews 4:13). God sees in the darkness of troubled times as clearly as in the daylight (Psalms 139:11-12). Through His Spirit, He offers us the comfort, strength, and wisdom to persevere. When troubles hit, remember what is true and take heart. The indwelling Holy Spirit has the resources to provide what we need, equip us for any challenge, and sustain us with His presence throughout the dark days. | 6/22/2026 | In His Word, God commands us to serve one another (Galatians 5:13). However, in life there will inevitably be people and situations that make this calling a challenge. Thankfully, a biblically based understanding of service can help us obey the Lord’s instruction no matter who the recipient is or how problematic things can get. The reason? God is actually the One whom we serve. When we have this motivation underlying everything we do, it will impact the quality of our work and keep us from becoming discouraged. Then, whatever our task—whether we drive a truck, lead a company, or teach children—if our goal is to glorify God, we will do our best in His strength. And we can trust Him to use us for His purposes, even if our labor might appear fruitless to us or to others. Whomever the Lord calls us to serve and whatever He tells us to do, we can obey with joyful hearts when it’s done for Him. If this is our motivation, we won’t need worldly approval or evidence of impact. | 6/20/2026 | Christians sometimes make the mistake of mentally separating their work life from their spiritual life. But this isn’t a wise way to live. The Holy Spirit should be involved in everything we do, and no matter where we are, we should recognize Him as our guide, comforter, and intercessor. The apostle Paul clearly teaches that work is to be done “as for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23). Other people may do a job better because of greater skill or experience, but believers should be known for doing quality work in an honest, wise, and faithful manner. And we can trust the Holy Spirit to equip us to do just that. Serving the Lord on the job means that our workplace is also our ministry. When done as unto the Lord, our jobs become more than a means to make a living. Work develops character, builds a sense of self-worth, and develops skills. Moreover, while we are around coworkers, we have an opportunity to build relationships, share our testimony, and glorify our heavenly Father. Work gives us a chance to show God’s love to others, and the reward for those who do so is greater than a paycheck. After all, they are blessed with a ministry—a harvest field for the kingdom—whether it’s at a school, office building, construction site, warehouse, store, or elsewhere. Charles Stanley |

After all, much of the world operates by conditional love, which offers approval and acceptance on the basis of performance. So when we first come to Christ, there is often a natural tendency to assume we must strive to “earn” blessings. Divine love can never be gained by human effort. There’s nothing we can do to make our Father love us more. Nor can we do anything to make Him stop loving us (Romans 8:38-39). No matter what has occurred in your past or what you’re struggling with right now, God’s love is freely given to you. Our heavenly Father pours His love upon us without exception. It’s not as if He postponed loving you until the moment you invited Him into your life. In truth, the Lord never began to love you at all; He always has. From the creation of the world, God knew you and loved you (Psalms 139:13-16; Ephesians 1:4-5). Rejoice in the Father’s love. Experience His peace instead of focusing only on what-ifs, and embrace a life characterized by purpose rather than fear. The qualities of Christlike character are among His best gifts, and these develop through trials and testing. God said that He intended to send a flood that would destroy mankind, and He told Noah to build an ark to save his household and the animals. The Bible says that Noah believed God. Now Noah had never seen a flood. He had never seen a 40-day rain. He had no weather map, no satellite photograph or meteorologist to tell him that a big storm was coming. All he had to go on was the Word of God. But when the flood came, Noah was spared and saved with his family, and the rest of the generation was swept away. Noah was saved because he put his trust in God. In Genesis 6:3, God said before the flood, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever.” Don’t get the idea that the Holy Spirit’s conviction is going to stay in your heart and in your life if you continually reject Him. You may come to a place of sudden destruction in your spirit as well as in your mind, a place in which the Holy Spirit of God no longer speaks to you and God no longer draws you. God in mercy is holding back this day. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). However, God has given mothers the responsibility of shaping those young lives and teaching the importance of knowing and loving Him. Timothy is an example of how women can impact the faith of the next generation (2 Timothy 1:5). If you’re a mom, you have tremendous influence in the lives of your children. The world cannot offer anything to compare with the dual dimensions of God’s blessings—spiritual and material.
