The Spirit World

4. Fallen Angels

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:11-14

There are many spirits (angels) spoken of in scripture

  • Archangels
    • Highest ranking angels.
    • Like Michael who commands the angelic army of Heaven.
  • Cherubim
    • Angels who are proclaimers and protectors of God’s glory and holiness.
    • Like Lucifer who was the guardian of the Throne of God.
  • Seraphim
    • Angels who praise and announce the holiness of God.
    • Like Gabriel who announced to Mary the coming birth of Christ.
  • Angel Of The Lord
    • When God appears as an angel
    • Like one of the 3 men who visited Abraham.
  • Wicked Spirits & Fallen Angels (Evil angels)
    • Demons
    • Seducing Spirits
    • Spirits In Prison
      • A special class of fallen angels (not Satan’s) bound inTartarus, not the hell for men, whose sin caused the flood.
      • This opens a whole new can of worms!

Angels are highly organized like an army

  • Thrones & Dominions – Ranks of good and evil angels having dominion over each other.
  • Principalities & Powers – Ranks of good and evil angels having dominion over people.   They constantly do battle to control your spirit.
  • Age Rulers of Darkness – Ranks of evil angels

Let’s take a closer look at Satan

  • Satan is also known as our Adversary – AKA Devil the Accuser
  • He fell and took 1/3 of the angels with him.
  • Many people deny the existence of Satan (and Hell & Heaven as well)
    • Remember that Satan is The Great Deceiver.
    • The Bible, however, says he is real.
  • He walks & roars.

1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

  • He can be restrained.

Rev 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

Rev 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

  • He has many in his spirit army – We do not know how many angels fell with Satan but Revelation indicates one third of an innumerable number of angels in heaven.
  • Satan is known as:
    • Satan our Adversary
    • Devil our Accuser
    • The Great Deceiver
    • Beelzebub
    • Lord of the flies
    • Belial
    • Dragon
    • Serpent
  • Satan is now:
    • Not anywhere in Hell.
    • The Prince Of The Powers Of The Air on Earth.
    • The God Of This World (This Age).
  • Satan was created with all of the other angels before the foundation of the world – Perfect in every way.
    • The most powerful, intelligent angel.
    • A most beautiful angel of light.
    • The highest ranking of all angels – including Michael.

Where is Satan really at now?

  • Most people believe Satan and his angels are imprisoned in Hell – Not so.    Satan and his angels are at liberty in this world and have access to Heaven.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

  • Satan and his angels are at liberty in this world and Heaven until the middle of the tribulation when Satan is finally cast to Earth for good

Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

Rev 12:8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Rev 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time (3 1/2 years).

Rev 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman (Israel) which brought forth the man child (Jesus).

Since his fall, Satan always has and always will continue to be our adversary.

  • In the garden, Satan tempted Eve – Result: The Fall of creation.
  • To prevent the birth of The promised seed, Satan caused Cain to kill Abel.
  • To bring about the destruction of the human race, Satan gets The Sons of God to marry The daughters of Men.
  • To destroy the unity of the human race, Satan suggests the building of The Tower Of Babel – Result: The Confusion Of Tongues.
  • When Christ was born it was Satan that prompted Herod to destroy all male children in Bethlehem under 2.
  • Satan tried to overcome Jesus with weakness and hunger when He fasted in the wilderness for 40 days.
  • Satan got Judas to betray his master so He could be crucified.
  • It was Satan that sought to kill Christ by weakness and torture before He could reach the cross and make atonement for our sins
  • It was Satan who thought himself victorious when Christ died on the cross
  • But it was Satan’s anger that knew no bounds when Christ arose from the grave.
  • It is Satan that continues to destroy the Church with same-sex marraige and other people-pleasing, feel good, nonChristian nonsense policy towards tolerance.

Satan’s rampage on Earth will temporarily end during the millennium but will not finally end until after the millennium.

  • At the end of the 7 year Tribulation, The AntiChrist and False Prophet will be cast into the Lake Of Fire after defeat at The Battle Of Armageddon.

Rev 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

  • Satan will be chained during the millenium.

  • At the end of the Millenium, Satan is finally judged and thrown into The Lake Of Fire.

Rev 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

Rev 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

Rev 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

  • And then…The Great White Throne.

Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

  • And then…A new Heaven and New Earth

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

…and some think there were other Fallen Angels – Not among those who fell with Satan, but nonetheless greatly influenced by Satan

  • Not Satan’s angels – His roam about free.
  • These are in prison in Tartarus, not hell.
  • Reserved in chains for judgement.
  • Their sin was fornication with strange flesh – Beings of a different
  • nature.
  • This caused the Great Flood during Noah’s time in an attempt to wipe
  • out these hybrid angels / humans.
  • These fallen angels are referred to twice in the New Testament.
  • Peter is nearing death and he wrote his letter to prepare his readers for the time when he would no longer be with them and to urge them to press on toward spiritual maturity and beware of false teachers and stick to the truth of Christianity.

2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2Pe 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (Tartarus), and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

2Pe 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

2Pe 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

2Pe 2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

  • Scarcely 40 years after Jesus’s death, many Christians were becoming lax in the teaching of Christ’s doctrine and becoming fair game for false teachers.
  • Jude (brother of James; (half brother of Jesus) is encouraging the believers to stick to the truths that Jesus taught and beware of false teachers.

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Jud 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jud 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Jud 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Jud 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

  • Where did these angels come from?

Gen 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

Gen 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Is this the breaking down of the separation between the godly line of Seth and the godless line of Cain who killed Abel or are these fallen angels?

  • This greatly divides biblical scholars!

Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Gen 6:4 There were giants (Nephilim – meaning violent or causing to fall) in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face  of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Did the angels fall more than once?

  • Moses sent the 12 spies into Canaan – All but Joshua & Caleb were too afraid.

Num 13:25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

Num 13:26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

Num 13:27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

Num 13:28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

Num 13:29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

Num 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

Num 13:31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

Num 13:32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Num 13:33 And there we saw the giants (Nephilim), the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

  • Nothing is ever said about angels having no ability to procreate.
  • Besides, there are never any female angels mentioned in scripture – who would they marry?
  • When we go to Heaven we may not marry but this does not mean we won’t have a special love relationship with our earthly spouse.
  • Is there reason to believe that Satan, an angel himself, had the power to
  • procreate?

Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and God confronted them.

Gen 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

Gen 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed (evil angels, evil man – a generation of evil vipers, The Anti-Christ – the Son of Perdition) and her seed (mankind); it (Jesus) shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel (Jesus will die for our salvation).

  • The Anti-Christ is called the Son of Perdition by Paul when he describes the coming tribulation.

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition (the state of final damnation – the opposite of Salvation);

2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

So what are angels anyway?

  • They are spirit beings clothed in a celestial body.
  • They can assume the material form of man – They ate of Abraham’s calf and Lot’s unleavened bread.
  • There is no reason to believe they may not have a man-like celestial body like Jesus.
  • When Jesus ascended he ascended as a man.
  • Jesus is now in Heaven the man Jesus Christ.

1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

  • John had a vision of Him as a man in the midst of the Seven Lampstands

Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Rev 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

  • There is no reason to believe other spirit beings in Heaven are not man-like either – Including God!

Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

Joh 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Joh 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Joh 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Joh 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Joh 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

Joh 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou
